About Us

For the past twenty years, executive chef Terri Milligan has been creating innovative dishes grounded in the basics of good old-fashioned cooking. Her fondness for all things culinary had the usual humble beginnings with friends and family. Later, as the owner of her own Milwaukee-based fundraising consulting firm, Terri's fondness for cooking became her passion as she began to consider a career in catering and cooking instruction.

She enrolled at the Legendary Postilion School of Culinary Arts, founded and run by Madame Liane Kuony. Under Madame's tutelage, Terri honed her culinary skills in the fundamentals of cooking. Terri continued her work as a fundraiser and catered small dinner parties and taught cooking classes at a Milwaukee restaurant supply showroom.

In the early 1990's, Terri and her husband, Christopher, decided to go into business for themselves with Wisconsin's Door County peninsula as their first choice of restaurant sites. Their vision of a restaurant and cooking school became a reality in 1993 when an enviable location, adjacent to a marina in the picturesque village of Sister Bay, became available. Christopher, a former corporate executive, manages the front of the house while Terri manages the menu creation and kitchen staff.

Since then, The Inn at Kristofer's has become Door County's destination of choice for diners in search of innovative cuisine with a homespun touch. This special occasion restaurant, renowned for its fabulous sunsets, has captured the attention of many food and travel writers. Articles featuring the Milligans, their restaurant and its popular recipes have appeared in Good Housekeeping, Bon Appetit, Midwest Living and Wisconsin Trails magazines.

In 2006, Kristofer's was voted by the readers of Door County Magazine as the area's best restaurant and most romantic restaurant.   Travel writer Alan Soloman of the Chicago Tribune, distinguished the restaurant by naming it his favorite domestic restaurant in 2001.   Milwaukee Journal Sentinel food critic and author, Dennis Getto, considers the restaurant one of the state's top picks and one of the five most romantic restaurants in Wisconsin.   Most recently, Chef Milligan, along with her signature recipe, Sautéed Quail in Door County Cherry Sauce, were featured on the Food Channel's "Best of Holiday Cooking" show.
